Paint Branch Chinese Immersion ES

University of Maryland Partnership

In collaboration with University of Maryland, Paint Branch Chinese Immersion Elementary School has created an educational partnership to expand the educational experience of the PBES students. The following are PBES programs and relationships with University of Maryland.

Confucius Institute at Maryland

PBES and the Confucius Institute of University of Maryland have developed a fraternal relationship/exchange with Nankai University Elementary School. Nankai University Elementary School in Tianjin, China is a sister school of Paint Branch.Elementary School established with support from Hanban, also known as the Office of Chinese Language Council International (CLCI).  The Confucius Institute at Maryland (CIM) promotes the understanding of China today through the study of Chinese language, culture, ethics, and philosophy.

Chinese Dragon Team

Establish in 2015, the Chinese Dragon team uses Chinese culture, values, and related arts & crafts to boost student confidence in learning. Through various activities, students learn how to work well with others and help each other.

Lakeland STARs

Lakeland STARs is an academic enrichment program that serves 1st - 6th grade children at Paint Branch Elementary School in College Park, Maryland.  Children in the program are matched with a volunteer tutor in an one-on-one setting, and they meet each week on a designated day throughout the semester.  Lakeland STARs has been part of the Scholars experience since February 1996, and tutoring with the Lakeland STARs program is a rewarding way for College Park Scholars to give back to the community.

PDS - Professional Development School

In collaboration with the University of Maryland School of Education, Paint Branch Elementary School became a Professional Development School (PDS) at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. Future teacher candidates intern with experienced teachers to practice, gain practical experience, and expand their knowledge and teaching methods.
