PBES Programs & Services

Paint Branch Chinese Immersion Elementary School (PBES), home of the Busy Bees, is a public school that proudly houses the first and only Chinese Partial Immersion and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Elementary School Program in Prince George's County. PBES is located in College Park, Maryland - just steps away from The University of Maryland. Under the leadership of Ms. Ruby Shu Costea, PBES Academic Dean and Chinese Immersion Coordinator, students are taught the Chinese language and receive 100% of their Science, STEM, and Math instruction in Chinese, giving them the ability to develop communicative and academic proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

PBES is once again honored to be among the seven elementary schools selected as an Autism Program Site in the PGCPS System. PGCPS's Autism Programs provide specialized services to dynamic, thoughtful and insightful young students who are among our community's and nation's most vulnerable yet promising population.

PBES also offers Talented and Gifted (TAG) services in the form of instruction, activities, and strategies designed to promote and achieve advanced competencies among intellectually gifted students; and routinely employs Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behavior.
